Answering the Ancestral Call, Nurturing the Heritage of Generations to Come

Brighter Tomorrow Foundation was born from a unique alignment of destinies. Two lifelong friends, bound by shared ancestral roots in West Nusa Tenggara, came together to realize a shared vision: Djafar (Papang) carries Bimanese heritage from Sumbawa Island, while Lalu Rois Amri Radhiani (Aam) is of Sasak descent from Lombok. Born in the same month and year, just days apart, their friendship has stood the test of time for over a quarter of a century. Their professional paths first converged in 1999 at the Indonesian Independent Film Foundation (YMMFI)—the organization that gave rise to the Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest), one of Southeast Asia’s leading film festivals at the time, and Indonesian Documentaries (In-Docs), which later developed influential initiatives such as the Eagle Awards and Docs by the Sea.

Papang and Aam combine two distinct yet complementary spheres of expertise:

Djafar (Papang)

Alumnus of Air Transportation Management, Trisakti School of Transportation Management (STMT Trisakti). His academic background provided him with a strong foundation in supply chain management, distribution logistics, regulatory licensing, import-export compliance, and customs operations. His professional journey in the film industry began through Film Traffic at the Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest), where he was involved from 2000 to 2006, progressing from volunteer to managerial roles. In 2007, he joined Blitz Megaplex—prior to its later acquisition by CGV—as Distribution Manager, while also serving as a distribution consultant for leading domestic and international film production houses. Post-pandemic, Papang relocated to Mataram, where he focused on producing short films and documentaries while actively mentoring local film communities across West Nusa Tenggara.

Lalu Rois Amri Radhiani (Aam)

Alumnus of TV/Radio Broadcasting at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Film Studies at the Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ). Having served as Co-Executive Director of YMMFI and Co-Director of JiFFest from 2007 to 2011, Aam subsequently dedicated years to advising government institutions on national film policy and promoting Indonesian filming locations and cinema in more than 25 countries. His leadership track record includes serving as Executive Secretary of the Indonesian Film Board from 2014 to 2017 and Head of Location Promotion from 2017 to 2022. Upon Papang’s recommendation in 2017, Aam was appointed Country Representative for Beijing Weying Technology, an entity backed by tech and entertainment giants Tencent, Wanda Cinema, and China Media Capital. In the years following the pandemic, Aam has served as Chairman of Semesta Daya Mada (Salaka Credu) in Yogyakarta, focusing on arts and cultural entrepreneurship.

After extensive careers spanning multinational corporations, government institutions, and strategic organizations, Papang and Aam are joining forces once again. Answering their ancestral call to return home, they are committed to unlocking the potential of local maritime communities and working alongside coastal communities to build a more self-reliant, prosperous, and sustainable legacy for generations to come.
