Answering the Ancestral Call, Nurturing the Heritage of Generations to Come

Brighter Tomorrow Foundation was born from a unique alignment of destinies. Two lifelong friends, bound by shared ancestral roots in West Nusa Tenggara, came together to realize a shared vision: Djafar (Papang) carries Bimanese heritage from Sumbawa Island, while Lalu Rois Amri Radhiani (Aam) is of Sasak descent from Lombok. Born in the same month and year, just days apart, their friendship has stood the test of time for over a quarter of a century. Their professional paths first converged in 1999 at the Indonesian Independent Film Foundation (YMMFI)—the organization that gave rise to the Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest), one of Southeast Asia’s leading film festivals at the time, and Indonesian Documentaries (In-Docs), which later developed influential initiatives such as the Eagle Awards and Docs by the Sea.

Lalu and Djafar combine two distinct yet complementary spheres of expertise:

Lalu Rois Amri Radhiani

An alumnus of TV/Radio Broadcasting at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) and Film Studies at the Jakarta Institute of the Arts (IKJ), with extensive experience in film management, national film policy, and international location promotion. He served as Co-Executive Director of YMMFI and Co-Director of JiFFest (2007–2011), later becoming Executive Secretary of the Indonesian Film Board (2014–2017) and Head of Location Promotion (2017–2022). He advised government institutions on national film policy and promoted Indonesian filming locations and cinema in over 25 countries. In 2017, he was appointed Country Representative for Beijing Weying Technology, backed by Tencent, Wanda Cinema, and China Media Capital. Post-pandemic, he has served as Chairman of Semesta Daya Mada (Salaka Credu) in Yogyakarta, focusing on arts and cultural entrepreneurship.

Djafar

An alumnus of Air Transportation Management from Trisakti School of Transportation Management (STMT Trisakti), with a professional background spanning film distribution, production, logistics, and creative community development. His academic background provided a foundation in supply chain management, distribution logistics, regulatory licensing, import-export compliance, and customs operations. His film career began at the Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest), where he progressed from volunteer to managerial roles, followed by serving as Distribution Manager at Blitz Megaplex and as a distribution consultant for leading domestic and international production houses. Post-pandemic, he relocated to Mataram, focusing on short films and documentaries while mentoring film communities across West Nusa Tenggara.

After extensive careers spanning multinational corporations, government institutions, and strategic organizations, Papang and Aam are joining forces once again. Answering their ancestral call to return home, they are committed to unlocking the potential of local maritime communities and working alongside coastal communities to build a more self-reliant, prosperous, and sustainable legacy for generations to come.
